Favre
Don't get me wrong, I love Brett Favre.  I think he was a great quarterback that deserves to be in Hall of Fame.  That being said, I can't belive what he is putting his loyal Packer fans through.  For him to demand to be released is the biggest slap in the face you can give to a city that stood by you throught the good and the bad.  I have lost all respect for him. You don't make a decision to retire, and then decide to change your mind, and expect everyone to change everything they've been doing to move on, and take a step backwards to cater to your needs.  Screw you.  The Packers are making the right decision by standing firm.  In fact, I hope this whole thing turns in to such a mess that he is unable to get on another team.  It's too bad we had to see the real Favre.  He seemed like such a good guy.

Where Have All The Head Coaches Gone?

Has the NBA seriously run out of available head coaches to hire?  The new fad apparently is to hire ex-players, as Vinny Del Negro goes to Chicago, Michael Curry gets the Pistons job, and Terry Porter resurfaces as a head coach in Phoenix.  Now, no disrespect to any of those guys, especially Porter who I’ve always felt got a raw deal in Milwaukee, but it seems to me like there must not be anyone else left to hire.  Neither Curry nor Del Negro has head coaching experience and Porter has less than two years.  What qualifies them to be a head coach?  There are no up-and-coming assistants, or previous head coaches, or guys that have coached at the college level willing to take on any of these jobs?  Or are there zero guys with experience to hire?  I don’t get it.  Once again, this is not a knock on any of those guys.  I just wonder the line of thinking that is going on.  If I’m a GM, I’m hiring the best guy I can find……..and the one with the most experience.  Call me crazy.  It just seems like a whole lot of rolling the dice to me.  And we’re not talking about teams with nothing to lose by gambling.  Except for Chicago (who I think is better than their record shows) these are high quality playoff teams.  If I’m a fan of one of these teams, I’m definitely questioning these decisions.

Hot Topics
Are we seriously talking about Robert Horry's perfectly legal pick on David West?  It was a known fact that West had a bad back and, because of that, Horry and the rest of the Spurs should have made sure that he had a nice 5 foot bubble so he doesn't hurt his back anymore.  I can't believe this is a hot topic.  Maybe we should just turn basketball games into free throw contests so nobody get hurt.  Just because Horry may have focused on the injury doesn't mean it was a foul or a dirty play.  It was Horry playing the game, and playing the game hard.   This is the playoffs.......if you can't handle it, then maybe you don't belong.

Suns president Steve Kerr told ESPN.com that he flew in and out of Detroit on Thursday to meet with Porter, his former teammate for two seasons in San Antonio.  Pistons assistant Terry Porter coached the Milwaukee Bucks for two seasons.  Porter, who posted a 71-92 record in a two-season stint as Milwaukee's head coach from 2003-05, is believed to the first to formally meet with the Suns.  This is good news for Porter who got a raw deal with the Bucks.  Porter is a good coach who knows the game and relates well to his players.  He deserves a second chance and hopefully the Suns will see his potential.

I find it hard to believe that Bill Belichick still has a job.  According to Matt Walsh, Belichick knew the rules and how to get around them without getting caught.  "When I was doing it, I understood what we were doing to be wrong," Walsh said. "We went to great lengths to keep from being caught. Just saying that the rules were misinterpreted isn't enough of an apology or a reasoning for what was done. … Coach Belichick's explanation for having misinterpreted the rules, to me, that really didn't sound like taking responsibility for what we had done, especially considering the great lengths that we had gone through to hide what we were doing."  That statement alone should have gotten Belichick permanently banned from the NFL.  I understand bending the rules, but he took it to the next level and, quite possibly, altered entire seasons.  Unforgivable.  Period.

Best and Worst of the NFL Draft
The 2008 NFL Draft had many ups and downs.  Lots of trades that could end up going either way.  But, all in all, a good draft to watch.  Here are my best and worst of this weekend's draft.

The Best

Grade: B+

Felix Jones is a great pick to play along side Barber.  He also can return kicks.  Mike Jenkins plays the ball well and should make an immediate impact in what is becoming a very strong secondary.  Biggest miss was not drafting a WR.

Grade: B+

Overlooking the fact that they passed on a QB for some unknown reason, Chicago did alright.  Chris Williams will start and was needed on the o-line.  Matt Forte is a solid back who can be elusive.  WR Earl Bennett is a strong and durable player similar to Hines Ward.  Two players, DT Marcus Harrison and CB Zack Bowman both could have been day one picks.  Safety Craig Steltz will push for a starting job.  TE Kellen Davis is an all arould athlete but needs to work on being consistent.

Grade: B+

They traded up to get Jeff Otah and that will prove to be a wise choice.  RB Jonathan Stewart is a workhorse and Dan Connor was a steal in the third round.  On day two they grabbed CB Charles Godfrey, who was most likely the best player available going into the day.  Gary Barnidge is a great pass catching TE but probably could use work on his blocking.

Grade : A

Easily had the best draft.  Glenn Dorsey makes the trade seem not so bad.  Branden Albert might need a little work, but a is a good tackle.  If Brandon Flowers would have had a better 40, he would have been a mid first round pick.  RB Jamaal Charles and TE Brad Cottam will both contribute on offense.  S DaJuan Morgan is solid and Barry Richardson will most likely start right away.

The Worst

Grade: C

Ryan Clady was picked to help Cutlerand should start.  Eddie Royal might be a decent slot receiver and can do returns. S Josh Barret doesn' always play up to his potential and FB Peyton Hillis is a little short for the position.

Grade: C-

OT Duane Brown was a reach in the first.  CB Antwaun Molden will need some work.  OLB Xavier Adibi is overrated due to his lack of instinct.  For a sixth round pick, S Dominique Barber was a nice pick and will find a place in the secondary.

Grade: D+

The Titans needed a WR so and drafted a RB.  Chris Johnson is a nice player, but was the wrong pick.  They did get WR Lavelle Hawkins, but not until the fourth.  William Hayes has good moments, but was a reach in the fourth.  CB Cary Williams probably won't make the team.

Grade: C-

They didn't address their need at WR until the sixth and didn't take a LB until the seventh.  Chilo Rachal will play well at G.  Josh Morgan is an ok receiver and Cody Wallace was one of the top three centers.

Catch Up...
Alright, it's been awhile since my last post, so there's a few things we need to catch up on.
First, Tiger Woods.  I'm going to come out and give him the knee excuse as to why he lost The Masters.  I know a lot of people wouldn't do that, but I believe that if he is 100%, he is unbeatable.  And the fact that he finished second is still amazing all things considered.  I'd like to see you go and play 72 holes in four days on a knee so bad that you have surgery a couple days later.

Second, The Milwaukee Bucks ended up with a great replacement for GM following the firing of Larry Harris.  John Hammond is a solid replacement coming over from the Detroit Pistons where he helped mold the team they have now.  Herb Kohl vows to give his new GM full "responsibility and credit" for the daily operations of the Bucks franchise, and the owner pledged his full support and cooperation.  If that means that he's going to butt out of the decision making process, then the Bucks may very well be on their way.

Third, this is the one year anniversary of the Virginia Tech shootings.  A tragedy that is becoming far more common than it ever should.  Spend a minute thinking about the family and friends affected by this senseless act of violence.

And finally, Steve McNair has retired.  One of the premier do-it-all QB's that led the way to others like Vince Young, McNair was a fun QB to watch.  He led the Ravens to a 13-3 record in 2006, when he completed 295 of 468 passes for 3,050 yards and 16 touchdowns before suffering an turnover-marred, injury-filled 2007.  With McNair's decision, the Ravens are left with quarterbacks Kyle Boller and Troy Smith on their roster. The NFL draft is next weekend and many mock drafts have quarterback Matt Ryan of Boston College falling to the Ravens' No. 8 pick in the first round.
